When You Wish Upon a Fillion
A social experiment if you dare: Turn to the person on your left and ask them if they know the actor Nathan Fillion. Whether you’re on a bus, or a subway, or at work, even in your own home: Ask them. Did they know him? I bet they didn’t.
Now ask them if they know Mark Wahlberg.
Here’s some back story for you. In early October Nathan Fillion made a personal campaign to play the lead character Nathan Drake in an upcoming movie based on the game Uncharted. Fillion is best known for his role as Captain Reynolds on Joss Whedon’s Firefly and more recently known for the show Castle. (True Fillion fans will also know him from his work on Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.)
Last week however, Mark Wahlberg confirmed he would star in the Uncharted film. And the internet grew angry.
If you have any belief in marketing at all, your anecdotal social experiment reveals why the apt Fillion was overlooked — nobody knows his name.
I understand why you’re angry. I personally think Chris Cooper should star in every movie, just so I can see what he can’t do WHICH I’M POSITIVE is “nothing.” So sing your innnermost desires until your voice cracks and the shrill cry eradicates your fleshy bits. But when the blood spills from your mouth and you can no longer speak: Open your eyes.

Fillion is possibly Jesus. Or Batman. Or both. Also, I wish to bear his offspring. Give me your seed Fillion!!!
i’m not sure it works like that. you might have to do some things, some things you aren’t proud of, to get his seed.
I do the weird stuff.
He was also in ‘Two Guys and a Girl’ with Ryan Reynolds, and yeah, he’d be a much better Nate Drake than Marky Mark.
were you a firefly fan?
Do this experiment on Nathan Fillion himself. I reckon he would say the same things about Mark Wahlberg. Except his envy might run deeper…
i always think: that dude.. from that show.. that stupid one that i didn’t like..
Nathan Fillion also played the adulterous gynecologist in the film ‘Waitress.’
Just pointing that out.
huh. you know, i completely forgot about that, and i saw that movie. that’s kind of sad.
He was also in a really over the top bad sci fi movie called SLITHER. You have to be a true fan to have seen that!
He was also the semi-love interest in Trucker… which is the only reason I watched that movie.
Why the hell wouldnt they just get Nolan North, they person that does drake, and a damn good job at it if i might add, to do play drake in this movie…..im outraged.
Firefly was absolute garbage, just like anything Whedon pukes up.
Personally, I think it should have been Jensen Ackles. Dean Winchester’s already pretty similar to Nathan Drake.
“True Fillion fans will also know him from his work on Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” Pfft, that’s the only place I know him from. He did a great job.
The hammer is my penis.
Here’s to nerdery: I’m actually the opposite of this.
I am a huge fan of Nathan Fillion (even if I can never remember how many L’s his name has). Firefly, Castle, Horrible, whatever, I’ve seen it and own it.
Mark Wahlberg? No idea. All I know (well, knew) was that my dad would always say “MARKY MARK” whenever my sister or mother brought him up.
‘Till this comic, I didn’t even know Mr. Wahlberg was an actor.
i just realized he’s in halo ODST. because i started playing it. his voice acting is great, and i really enjoyed the fact that he’s in there. but unfortunately, that was the only up side to the game. it is by far the worst piece of shit to ever graze the halo franchise.
fillion, why you gotta choose all the failures to put your name on? why can’t you be in something AWESOME? well, i guess i loved firefly, but it just.. didn’t do well.
Well, he did do one of the marines in H3 too
He DOES get around. But voice acting isn’t really the most visible profession
