There comes a point in drunken Guitar Hero when boastful one-upmanship becomes empty.

That’s why you play co-op. It doesn’t stop boasting but it is as close as that game gets to creating heroes.

“I can’t hit all the notes. Hard is hard. I’m going to do the next song on Expert. You’re going to have to carry us.”

Did RedOctane know this? Did they foresee a suburban destiny of true guitar heroes who champion the success of a song while self-hindered by substances?

Of course they did. Like the vikings who believed their Gods made them invincible in battle, we too think we cannot be defeated at Guitar Hero. The only difference is we do not use substances to work ourselves into a frenzy, our efforts produce a powerful and timely wail before dissipating into nothing.
